The problem seems to be indeed related with GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE = 2048 even
with a 2048x768 setup.
Corruption happens when 3D stuff goes out of the screen limits (eg. desktop
cube, or a window partly out of the display aera)

I can confirm this bug, I'm having the same issue, with compiz and
beryl. (Ubuntu 7.04, Free software driver powered Radeon 9200 dual CRT
with MergedFB 1024x768 on both screens)

xaa/exa, does not matter, problem still persists (however I get very
high cpu usage with exa, already filed a bug for that)

Maximiun resolution for radeon 9000 is 2048 x 1536 pixels and your
resolution is over that so no 3D for outside that resolution?
