This bug is about removing kdar, and it was closed ages ago. Please,
open a new bug to ask for re-adding it.
Better yet, open an RFP bug (or even better: ITP) in Debian's BTS. Then
it will be synced back to Ubuntu.

I also compiled the new KDar version 2.10 for use with Hardy Heron and
have not had any problems with it. I would agree that KDar should be
re-integrated into Ubuntu Hardy. It is a very usefull program.

Hi Motin,
you need to specify the version of libdar as a parameter to the
configure-script.
The "INSTALL" file included in the release version says in line 52 et

@Ulrich:
Would you mind sharing how you managed to build kdar 2.1.0 from source?
I ran into the following:
sudo apt-get install libdar3c2a libdar-dev
tar -xvf kdar-2.1.0.tar.gz
cd kdar-2.1.0
./configure --enable-largefile
... then it eventually stopped at:

Hi,
a few days ago, 2008-05-11, version 2.1.0 of KDar was released.
This version compiles and runs fine with the current Ubuntu Hardy
versions of libdar etc., fixing this issue.
Since KDar has some outstanding features (e.g. incremental backups in

Right, there hasn't been a new upload since dapper, but this alone
doesn't seem to be a sufficient reason for removing it?

ia64, powerpc, sparc
kdar | 2.0.6-0ubuntu3 | edgy/universe | source, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64,
it doesn't build, and hasn't built with any of the last releases of dar.
Doesnt seem like it will anywhere in the near future, either.

I hope that current kdar users who are unaware of the removal will be
proper
So kdar is being removed - such a pity. I guess that it doesn't matter
too much as the package is not being developed anyway and updates are
rare.
For Feisty - It is perfectly possible to install kdar manually by using Dapper
libs found here (and to be installed in the same order):
http://package
It is uninstallable on Edgy, so it seems illogical to keep it in the
Edgy repos.
