I agree - it should NOT require macros and is a major limitation in
professional level presentations - this really needs to be fixed ASAP

Hi, thanks for your comment. In fact I already knew of this approach,
but it is MUCH more time-consuming then allowing direct interaction with
the inserted media object on a slide. I do not want to make 20
individual movies for the 20 movies I am showing in my presentation.
That is the reason why
here's a workaround...i haven't tried it yet (on Gutsy)...

Unfortunately not. You can insert a macro for each movie to launch an
external player, but for the manual insertion in OOimpress of movies I
have not found a solution.
