Just an idea. Maybe, the file that has to be modified is:
/usr/share/kde4/apps/katepart/syntax/perl.xml
I am not able modifying it.

This is still a problem. I'm running the latest RC of Kubuntu 10.10
with Kate version 4:4.5.1-0ubuntu3. I have attached a screenshot of the
problem.

I report a similar problem.
A variable name $_config is not highlighted correctly, as the parser separates
$_ and config.
