Public bug reported: On oneiric, with kernel 3.0.0-16, 64 bit with an AMD phenom II desktop machine w/ asrock matherboard.
Bought and installed a PCI usb3 expansion card, with the VIA VL800/801 chipset, which is said to be fully supported under linux. Tons of problems: 1) Some usb1 peripherals work (e.g. epson scanner), some do not at all (Nokia N02-1 phone) 2) Most usb2 peripherals do not work (HP printer, Edimax WIFI pen) and many times the system hard freezes when attaching these devices to the usb3 sockets 3) Most usb3 peripherals to not work in a stable way. For instance a Lindy usb3 dual 2.5 hd powered enclosure only works if external power is attached /after/ the device is plugged in. Booting with the device plugged in often hangs. Many times when the device is attached it is recognized, but the system cannot communicate with it and the partitions on the hds are not recognized. Many many many xhci_hcd 0000:03:00.0: WARN: short transfer on control ep and stalled endpoint messages on the kernel logs. Cannot understand if it is linux support for usb3 that is still broken or if devices violate usb standards while carrying the usb logo or a mixture of the two. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/944791 Title: Via VL800 usb3 pci card almost unusable in oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/944791/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
