Public bug reported:

Unity writes the 'average-bg-color' key in dconf whenever the background
changes and also on login.  dconf is not an IPC mechanism nor is it a
good place for transient state information and particularly the write on
login leads to increased boot time (because the dconf-service must be
started).

Please find another way of dealing with this.  A property on the root
window might make sense.
