Intel hardware has never support dual-link DVI, so you will be limited
to a single channel unless you use an alternate interface like DP.

Strange that the same hardware works flawlessly when running windows,
then? (i.e. 2560x1440 resolution in 60Hz). Unfortunately I've not been
able to run on that computer lately, so I don't know if it has been
fixed or not.

running headless on that one, so I've not tried it for a while. You are
probably right, could very well be hardware issues. Sorry about that,

1080p. Try with VGA or DVI.

You have a point, but it's not related to my primary issue.
I'm using a dual-DVI cable, however the mobo (Asus P8H61I /
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H61I/ ) only
supports DVI with Max. Resolution 1920 x 1200 @60Hz. The highest
available for me was 1600x1200 and 1680x1050.
