I've been using the patch mentioned in #974242 for a while now and it
fixes this (too).

For what it's worth, a quick band-aid for me was to take the
plugins/place/place.cpp and plugins/place/place.h from the 0.9.6
(Oneiric) source tree, put them in the 0.9.7.8 source tree and re-
compile.
You lose whatever bugfixes and tweaks came with the new version, but it
fixes a number of proble
