Annoying
The above patch has a bigger context for pointing out line 6 from which
I had the idea of adding the mysterious 4 to the computed width in line
16. I did this because it wasn't working consistently yet, and in a
manner which is really hard to describe. But now it looks just fine
here.

This is the screenshot of how much horizontal space it would take from
the conversation area in 800x600 resolution. The window is maximized and
there's no relevant width taken, and if so it's not relevant enough to
prefer dealing with the short ellipsizing. My opinion.
