@Pali calm down. I'm pretty sure this fix will be available via the LTS
Enablement Stack once the raring variant is here:

It looks that Ubuntu developers totally ignore any bug reports.
This *critical* bug (not possible to change brightness is really
critical) is reported for more then year and *upstream* fix is there
about *9* months! And what happened in ubuntu? Nothing!
So what do you think? That Ubuntu now backp

I have HP ProBook 6560b LG656EA#AK8 and updating to Ubuntu 13.04 (64
bit) fixed the problem. Changing screen brightness now works with
LG656EA#AK8 model.

Same issue on a HP ProBook 6560b (lg652ea) running Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits.
I modified the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
