From a cursory test it looks like the problem is fixed in Intrepid (Alpha 4 LiveCD). Opening a text file on a Samba share from Nautilus works well, no matter whether Gedit is already started or not. Opening theses files from command line works equally well. That's with Gedit 2.23.3, which is said
