David, can you confirm the current kernel and bitness you're using with
uname -a for us? I think you said you're working with Hardy now.
I just revisited the source-code based on one of the back-traces
reported here and I noticed a comment in the code that might imply why
this only seems to occur

no the wired connection does not help, although the when the wifi
fails it defaults back to the wired connection, this *sometimes* seem to
hold off an immediate kernel panic.
