This problem is still in Hardy too, FWIW. If someone would point me at
the right source package and a quick start on how to submit patches,
I'll make a stab at fixing it. Either that, or perhaps I should report
it on one of the Xorg mailing lists. As I only use ubuntu, I don't know
for certain
Actually, a little more searching found this bug, which is a duplicate -
but does identify the problem as one with gnome-screensaver and
discusses some work arounds and possibilities of fixing.

Nice to Know that I am not the only one which have that bug.
It is interesting that you have the bug with ati and nvidia card, both with
proprietary drive.
I should check if I have the same bug with the ati driver.
But You said in your bug report (bug : 112188) that we should modified the
I think this is the same as the bug I experience - when working on the
second monitor, the screen saver will kick in if there has been no mouse
activity on the primary monitor. I need to move the mouse to the
primary monitor to get the screen saver to recognise that I am still
working.
