The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Not necessarily related to the live-cd, but I am experiencing this same
problem.
Hardware:
- ASUS P5B-E motherboard w/1501 BIOS revision (latest as of 7/12/2007)
- Intel P965 / ICH8R chipset
- 4x1GB RAM
- Ubuntu x86-64 7.04 Server
- Kernel 'linux-image-2.6.20-16-server'

This bug persists in the final release. The live CD will not boot.
There appears to be two issues since the live CD locks up in two
different ways. 1)the external jmicron sata control needs to be
disabled and 2) the memory remap needs to be disabled.
** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
I should add that I have confirmed this on two different systems with
the same hardware.

Although the Live CD from April 2 may have solved your problem,
2.6.20-14 was not released until later in the week. I might be
interesting to download the current daily ISO to see if it has any
effect.

The 20070402 live-cd resolves one problem.
However a different problem locks the system during boot too. 'Memory remap'
has to be disabled in the bios, which limits the system to 3 Gigs of Ram. This
problem is discussed and resolved at

I'm pretty sure this is related to lib-ata and the JMicron® JMB363 PATA
and SATA controller on this motherboard. Get the daily ISO from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ on Monday 4/2, burn it to
a CD and boot from it. Kernel version must be 2.6.20-14 or higher.
