I think there was a spec on ubuntu about adding more flexibility to
default applications installed (recommended by ubuntu-desktop and not
forced) Anyone remembers what spec was that? Is there any plan to
continue with it?

i think exactly the same ! f-spot / eog make gthumb obsolet, but gthumb
is in depends while f-spot is in recommends. huh? move gthumb to
recommends!
