It's not a crash... Gaim just needs some randomness from the system pool to
generate the key. Mashing the keyboard and moving the mouse around helps.
(IIRC, gpg tells you to do this when creating a key)
It's a shame that this isn't done in a separate threads, so GUI updates take
place.

I can confirm the problem and in my opinion this is definitely a
problem, even if Janne is right and the key finally gets generated after
a long time. My system is not under load at all during the key
generation.
I started gaim with strace. The output of the last few lines is
attached. The last
I tried again and now can confirm Janne: It works if you just wait long
enough, but it took 30 minutes on my Thinkpad T30. It's still a problem
cause on a Debian system with similar hardware it took about 20 seconds.

I thought I had the same problem. But if you wait long enough, the
program will respond again after the key generation. Apparently the
generation is taking a long time for some reason.
