Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz
after being forced to change from nvidia-glx to nvidia-glx-legacy drivers I found that compiz would not work because the legacy driver doesn't support compositing. When logging in I would only get the background wallpaper, but no panels or windows. I thought it might be possible to improve things by disabling the composite extension in xorg.conf. Once I made the change I restarted X. I found that compiz was still running and it was spawning thousands of ompiz processes. Not sure what will correct this problem, but forcing a change from one driver to another has caused great issues with my laptop desktop. here is the process listing that is being created.... sam 32759 32739 0 11:38 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/compiz gconf the current is ... $ ps -ef|grep compiz|wc -l 5851 The number is steadily growing...
