Binary package hint: compiz

after being forced to change from nvidia-glx to nvidia-glx-legacy
drivers I found that compiz would not work because the legacy driver
doesn't support compositing. When logging in I would only get the
background wallpaper, but no panels or windows.

I thought it might be possible to improve things by disabling the
composite extension in xorg.conf. Once I made the change I restarted X.
I found that compiz was still running and it was spawning thousands of
ompiz processes. Not sure what will correct this problem, but forcing a
change from one driver to another has caused great issues with my laptop
desktop.

The number is steadily growing...
