Okay, so I had the same problem, but kind of fixed it.
Firstly, delete the .gstreamer-0.10 folder in your home drive.
Install Synaptic, then searched for gstreamer and just installed all the
plugins: good, bad, ugly variants as well.
This should do it.
If you still can't play your music in
I updated to Precise, and now tomen et al ffmpeg are broken!
