I too got this error today after upgrading grub2. My grub2 is installed
on a GPT.

I too got this error today after upgrading to 12.04 from 11.10. My Grub
is installed on a partition and NOT in MBR. It worked perfectly fine in
11.10

I should also add that the system has booted up fine since the upgrade
to precise, but haven't tested it today after the error.
