Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2-doc

With the default /doc/ alias set up in the 000-default virtual host in
apache2, one can browse to http://localhost/doc/apache2-doc/manual/ .
This results in the displaying of the type-map file
/usr/share/doc/apache2-doc/manual/index.html, not the displaying of the
proper-language index.html (.en in my case). This happens for every html
page in the manual.

In /etc/apache2/apache2.conf the directive "AddHandler type-map var" is
enabled by default. If one renames the type-map
/usr/share/doc/apache2-doc/manual/index.html to index.html.var, apache2
will do proper negotiation and return the proper-language index.html.

Also, if all the type-maps are removed (rm *.html), the MultiViews
directive (enabled in the default virtual host for /usr/share/doc) will
take care of negotiation and return the proper page.

Please either rename the type maps to *.var or remove them altogether.
