Just to echo the others: an hour of testing in, and I've nothing but joy to report. This patch makes Compiz/Gnome-Fallback usable. Things behave as you would expect: windows aren't jumping all over the place or getting stuck, and, per the other bug, the panel isn't getting in the way of fullscreen

I have tracked this down to the Place Window plugin. Disabling the plugin releases a window from its edge-captivity and while it's turned off future border clashes don't ensnare windows.
