Yes.
Actually the 2 bugs you mention and 'mine' are all the same.
The only reasonable way to get a 'viable' icon in the Unity launcher is to
create a quicklist (*.desktop) file.
This is true for SlickEdit, Eclipse, Skype, and many more applications.
