I tried booting the image

from USB on my MacBook Pro 6,2 but it did not work. The pendrive created
with Startup Disk Creator was not recognized as bootable device by my
MacBook.

Toni Schindler, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please provide the results following

Is there any solution or workaround to this?
I am still unable to boot Ubuntu 12.04 on my MacBookPro 6,2 with all
problems described in here.

I can help testing thing if needed. I'm currently running natty on my
macbookpro 6,2 and I'd like to do a fresh install of precise.
I'd like to add a few things though. Besides experiencing all that has
been already described, I tried the "Install ubuntu" option from efi

So if it hangs after probing the scsi controller, I think the issue
we're looking at here probably has nothing to do with plymouth - I think
you just happen to have garbage on the screen because the crash is
happening while plymouth is set up. So let's reassign this to the
kernel.

I compared `dmidecode` and `lspci -vvv` output between my 6,2 which
won't boot, and my coworker's 6,2 which does. Everything was identical,
except the hard drives which we use; both of which are non-stock.
I'm using an INTEL SSDSA2M080, and he's using a CORSAIR CMFSSD-2.

Steve,
Adding break=top did prevent the graphics glitch, but I didn't get much
further. The system hung after probing the SCSI controller.
I should note that my coworker also has a MacBookPro 6,2, and his
machine booted and installed 12.04 without issue. So we might be looking
at a firmware or mi
This bug behaviour is also consistent on the MacBookPro 5,2

Jason, thanks for the info, sounds like you're quite a bit ahead of me
on the debugging.
Can you try booting with those same changes (gfxpayload=text, remove
quiet and splash) but also boot with 'break=top' added to the boot
options and see whether you manage to get to a shell prompt in the

Just tried to debug. I set gfxpayload to text, and removed 'quiet' and
'splash'. The result was the exact same.
The last line displayed before the graphics corruption happened was
something with 'fbcon'. Loads a bit too fast to tell.
Also tried to boot the install CD with noapic, nolapic, acpi=o
Getting the exact same result on a MacBookPro 6,2, when installing from
the release CD of 12.04.
Boot menu was text mode.

It read "GNU GRUB version 1.99-18ubuntu1".
Today the crash slightly changed its timing: Instead of seeing a distorted

they stayed red. I waited some minutes but nothing happened.

I'm not sure that someone is me! But, Toni, just to check, can you tell
us whether the boot menu at which you selected was text mode (GRUB) or
graphical mode (syslinux/gfxboot)? The graphical one shows the Ubuntu
logo and has F1-F6 menus across the bottom of the screen.
