Another idea would be to temporarily exchange the encrypted swap device
for the real one. The resulting combination is of course no longer
safely encrypted. The user would have to be made aware.
I hacked up two scripts for the acpi daemon to do just that:

I have similar problem when I resume my laptop from suspended state. The
difference is that it can't restore the X session at all, I end up with
messages on the console that there are errors on the file system and it is
mounted read-only.
I'm using gutsy with the latest kernel (/vmlinuz-2.6.2
Even though I'm no Ubuntu Dev, I can confirm that it is impossible to resume
from a hibernated session with encrypted swap when the key isn't stored
anywhere (read: wenn you use /dev/urandom as a keyfile) if you hibernate to the
