Actually the standalone activity-log-manager is not meant for Ubuntu in the first place. Ubuntu is supposed to use activity-log-manager-panel, whereas the former is meant for non-Ubuntu which don't allow additional panels in System Settings and in non-elementary OS which don't have switchboard.
