It seems I have a similar issue... in my case it seems that the
certificate had expired. Under Lucid, this didn't lead to libvirtd
refusing to start, but in Precise this caused startup to fail. I'm not
sure whether that's an improvement but it would really have helped if
the syslog were more
Thanks, David. Those certainly should be logged, and are tagged with
the VIR_ERR_SYSTEM_ERROR code. I should think that would be emitted at
all times, but just to be sure, do you still have a system with an out
of date certificate where you could try setting log_level=1 in

Hi Christian,
- missing pm-utils dependency
While this creates log entries, this shouldn't actually cause any
errors.
Problem seems solved. Unsure which upgrade solved it.

After upgrading from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 libvirt-bin does not start

Problem was _not_solved. I just upgraded from Lucid to Precise and
libvirt-bin did not start. Two problems:
- missing pm-utils dependency
- listen_tls needs to be set to 0

I've uncommented listen_tls and set it to zero, because it wasn't used. We're
on kerberos here and tls wasn't needed.
After doing the same again libvirtd starts without errors, Kerberos is enabled
and works, while ssh does too:
virsh -c qemu+ssh://user@server:port/system command
virsh -c
Yes, debconf asks about to upgrade to the maintainers version. There are

Thanks for submitting this bug.
Note that this will not affect users who have not modified /etc/default
/libvirt-bin to start libvirt with --listen.
Actually, taking another look at oneiric, it does in fact also
automatically enable listen_tls. It leaves the line 'listen_tls = 0
commented, with
