I have since moved onto newer hardware, and no longer have access to the
notebook this was reported against.
Marking invalid since I can't verify, but feel free to change if
something else is more appropriate.

Hi Luke,
This bug was reported a while ago and hasn't had any recent comments.
Can you confirm if this is still an issue with the latest Jaunty
release? Thanks.

Hi, I'm running Ubuntu Server 8.04.1, all latest updates on an HP Compaq
nx8220 Notebook. Seem like this bug is still not fixed, as my console
screen blanks, but the backlight stays on. Very annoying.
Note, that I had to use the vanilla Desktop Kernel, as the special
server kernel does not work on
I've opened a new task against the actively developed kernel and am
closing the report against linux-source-2.6.22. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released.
Alpha2 and subsequent releases contain an updated version of the kernel.
You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from

Can we re-open this please?
I have a Gutsy server, new clean install which never switches the screen
off when at the terminal. It is blanked, but the backlight is never
switched off - wasting power and decreasing the life of the backlight.
