Hmm... it seems that installing the "gnome" metapackage (which is not
pulled in via gnome-shell) fixed this issue for me.
Here's my APT log if somebody wants to dig through that to try to
determine exactly what the problem is... Also, I've included a line-by-
line stylized summary of the installed
Just downgraded because of issues with ATI proprietary drivers (open
sourced drivers don't recognize my card), the 3.5 kernel, X11, and the
Gnome3-Team/Gnome3 PPA. That said, I had gotten so used to recording
things on my desktop - now I suddenly lack the capability. It appears

I have the same behaviour in my system, except that combination works
first time. Then, after screencast file was created gnome recorder only
append it without creation new files after start/stoping recording.

I've found the keyboard shortcut for this in dconf-editor, under
org.gnome.mutter.keybindings.toggle-recording, and the value is
'r'. I hit that key combination and nothing
happens.
