I found a solution:
1) I installed gnome-alsamixer
2) Under the 2 Capture options, I turned rec. on.
I have no idea what this means (record?), but it solved the problem.
Alsamixer (commandline ) DOES NOT HAVE such an option. Alsamixer needs
to be fixed.
This should be considered a major
