Here's my issue.

My internal speakers work fine and even mute when i plug my external speakers 
in the headphone jack.  However i have no sound coming out of my external 
speakers when plugged in.  i checked my levels and everything is fine and 
unmuted and the sound settings even show "headphones" in the output tab but 
when i test them i get nothing.  at least this is a step up from 11.10 where 
the internal speakers would not mute and wouldn't even recognize the headphone 
jack.  i've tried all the recommended 
options snd-hda-intel model= settings and nothing.  when i put in imac27 the 
system doesn't mute the internals and doesn't recognize my headphone jack at 
all.

any help would be great.
