This was found by VMware QA team, Robert kindly reproduced and filed the
bug. I pointed out the fix and Robert implemented it. The fix has been
tested by VMware QA and me.

I installed xserver-xorg-video-vmware_12.0.1-1ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb from
precise-proposed in a VM and ran the test case, suspend works and the
display comes back.

* Install vmwgfx-fbdev.conf into /etc/modprobe.d/ to pass
enable_fbdev=1 to the vmwgfx module at load time fixing a
ACK on the debdiffs. Looks reasonable.
