I'm seeing almost these exact symptoms on a lenovo t420s. I first saw one battery (BAT0) in the panel. I then ran 'upower - monitor' and it indeed showed only BAT0. I then ran 'cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/stat' and I got this: present: yes capacity state: ok charging
