I just had to edit /etc/init/failsafe.conf to remove all the sleeps.
Otherwise, my system will sometimes take an extra few minutes to boot,
for no good reason.
My setup is a bit unusual, but not too bizarre. I have a router with a
single ethernet connection which is connected to my main computer.
