Could this be the same issue as

The result problem seems to be the same:
1) impossible to import photos
2) full hd activity for indefinite period of time once we try to open a
directory containing pictures

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only
that one

Tuis malfunction is reproducible on a virtual maschine (vmware). while
the system is trying to read the directory structure of my canon
powershot g5, i can see that the system allocates permanent memory. When
the swapspace has no more free space, the nautilus process is killed by
