I think this bug has a workaround. I'm not sure this will work on 12.04,
for I'm still using 11.10 and it worked there. The idea is to copy
/usr/share/gedit/plugins/latex/tools.xml over
$HOME/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml using root user priviledges. This
will prevent the local file to be overwritt

Title:
A rolling stone gather no moss -- this is what comes in my mind about
Ubuntu. Every 6 months they come up with sth new, and things do not
work. They should stop this crappy culture. My latex plug-in also not
working in 12.04 which is supposedly a LTS!!!
