We've got something like: http://git.compiz.org/compiz/core/commit/?id=f77723432c639a659716db95b4b2cd0995574498 in compiz git now - this adds an option to disable focusing the window each time it is highlighted (which reverses the active order) - by the next upload I'll do something about allowing us to show that the windows are active without them really being active.
