530 SATA drive not detected in
IDE mode
I have a Ubuntu 8.10 Live Installer CD, from which I am trying to boot
and I am experiencing the aforementioned error, best described by ATA
revalidation failed. The detailled message is:
ata3.00: status: {DRDY}
ata3.00: revalidation failed (errno=-2
had so many problems with dell inspiron 530 just purchased,returned unit
to dell,not using ubuntu at this time.

@Zverinas, it's not all_generic_ide=1, it's all_generic_ide only.
Another update to this issue, if I may. I had another customer this morning
with a 530N system upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04.1 LTS which wouldn't fully
boot after the upgrade.
Changing the BIOS setting of Integrated Peripherials -

RAID at the BIOS level neither requires mirroring nor a second
drive. It appears to be more like Native
The RAID BIOS change worked great. The computer looks for raid, doesn't find
anything, then starts up like normal without the issues. Thanks Fabian. I
definitely appreciate you help a lot.

As the Windows XP shipped on the Dells already comes with RAID
drivers, I prefered to switch to this mode. It works with both OSs
and a single drive just
