Thank you for your response. Since some mail clients report the time
correctly, I thought that it was likely an issue with those that didn't.
Based on your input, I looked at the rfc and the control system is clearly
the culprit. Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction.

Subject: [Bug 484542] Re: mail header display has incorrect time in the
datefield

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I believe that the date line in
your E-Mail violates RFC 2822. Where you have UT, there should be a
time zone offset. Thunderbird/Evolution assumes the date is UT or Universal
Time which explains why you're seeing the time -7 hr since MST is UTC -0700.
I suggest repairing the control system. Please report any other bugs you
may find.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird

Ubuntu 9.10
Thunderbird 2.0.0.23+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

A piece of mail has a different time when viewed on a Linux mail client
(Thunderbird and Evolution) than it does on Windows Outlook or on the AOL
portal. The mail was generated by a control system (not a typical mail
client) and sent via AOL.

The mail was sent on Nov 16 at approximately 7:37 PM. I know this to be
correct.

Looking at the mail on Nov 17 through various clients:
On Thunderbird the date is displayed as 11/16/2009 12:37 PM On Evolution:
Yesterday 12:37 On Outlook (Windows): Mon 11/16/2009 7:38 PM On AOL (via
browser): Mon, Nov 16, 2009 7:37 pm

Looking at the message source below, that the time on the 'Received' line is
'21:37:37 -0500'. This would be 9:37 PM ET / 7:37 PM MT which is correct as
I'm in MT. The 'Date' line contains '19:37:44 UT'.

The message source is (with personal details removed)
Return-Path: <x...@aol.com>
