Dear Vadim, Apport wouldn't run indicating some error I don't recall. DPKG under recovery wouldn't load the network interfaces needed to download missing packages, not even under netroot... A manual install of the missing packages didn't yield any improvement. At the end, I decided to reformat the machine and install 12.04 (Precise). Its install failed and a report was sent to canonical. Now I'll settle to do a reinstall of 11.10.
Can you close the case for me then?
