Latest update on this issue which has been driving me crazy for the most

Decided to start with a fresh install of Oneiric (alpha 3+updates) and see if

I have now downgraded to the pulseaudio packages from Maverick and the
problem has disappeared.
so this would suggest that it is a regression in pulseaudio or libpulse0

Its more likely a regression in the alsa driver moreso than pulseaudio.
TO be sure, could you please try installing the latest drivers, as
