Windows XP in a VMware virtual machine on the Ubuntu host. Software
running on the windows VM is also able to access the scanner.

Tried bence's solution. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. The volume
still gets stuck at mute, with the media keys being unable to increase
it from there.

This is a work around:
A quick search around the Internet and it turns out that using the Synaptic
Package Manager to remove 'bluez-utils' solves the problem.

I don't get the crash, but the font problem is there. This is only with
emacs21. With emacs-snapshot it's OK. However, I can change the font
from the middle-click menu and then it looks OK, but the initial font
shows only boxes. This is after upgrading to Feisty.

after a clean install I have the following line in my fstab file
/dev/hdc/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
But I don't have a /dev/hdc file, which the entry refers to.
I do have a DVD on the Secondary IDE

In the meantime I've installed in /opt the Firefox binaries available from
http://www.mozilla.com/
And guess what: the problem still happens!
Could the problem be related to X? I've had some problems with Firefox
