Not sure why Suspend to Disk would not work, try removing 'quiet' from
the kernel menu in /boot/grub/menu.lst so you can see more messages on
the screen, perhaps there's some module that it can't unload?
Also, some nVidia cards behave differently, which one do you have?

Thanks much for the advice. I did uninstall and reinstall the mentioned
drivers. That alone does not seem to have fixed the problem, but
perhaps it helped. While installing one of them, I noticed that it
mentioned that I should run /usr/sbin/nvidia-glx-config.
I tried the "enable" and "disable"
The install new dictionary crash is due to a bug caused by not having
openoffice.org-base installed. If you install that package the
dictionary wizard should work. I will be looking into how to solve that
problem more cleanly at UDS next week.

I'am affected on Xubuntu 7.10 (upgraded from 7.04). Firefox version is
2.0.0.6+2nobinonly-0ubuntu1.
Disabling pango by MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 doubles speed on a local copy of
http://scragz.com/tech/mozilla/test-rendering-time. That means from 6.8 s to
3.2 s. My /etc/environment says: LANG="en_US.UT
Another thing I forgot: this is with Gutsy, and compiz version
1:0.6.0+git20071008-0ubuntu1. If I move the window left or right, it
also is offset by the width of the left or right window border, but this
is much less noticeable than the size of the titlebar.

I also have this problem with a clean gutsy install. I'm using a wired
connection and it takes 20+ seconds to load a new page. This is the only
problem that is keeping me from moving fully to ubuntu. Feisty worked
fine though.

Internet extremely slow in G
Uninstalling that package (along with gtk2-engines-gtk-qt, which depends
on it) got rid of the problem. There is a slight delay when the app

I've followed recommendations exactly, and variations thereof, with both
Matrox and Intel chips. In no case has lsmod ever shown vesafb as having
been loaded by the time init completes. Only when I modprobe vesafb
manually do I get working framebuffer consoles.

I have the same problem. But unfortunately couldn't umount my usb either
with umount
In my case the problem is Beagle. That for some reason runs on the

7.10 OpenOffice 2.3.0. If you Insert -> Field -> Page Number then double
click on the page number it brings up a configuration dialog box. Please

OK, i think that i have solved the problem. Dmraid -r seemed to
discover my separate non-raided hd which i have ubuntu installed on as a
raid device. I replaced the dmraid -ay line in /usr/share/initramfs-
tools/scripts/local-top/dmraid with dmraid -ay -f nvidia to exclude my
non-raid hd and then
dmraid works fine for me then no dublicate UUID (except swaps) takes
place.

For the installed Gutsy the problem has vanished as described.
Yesterday I loaded the final ubuntu-7.10-dvd-amd64.iso and burned it. Now when
I boot off that DVD the problem is not solved:
Splashscreen is visible, but after X and disk (see bug description) there is
just a black screen with a bli

When using nautilus in browser mode with the "Information" sidebar open,
the current folder's icon displays in the middle, with information about

A bit more info:
Turning all security off doesn't help. It seems to know the signal is there,
and reads as 4 bars (87%) in the network-manager toolbar icon, but the network
shows as 0 bars in the pull down menu when I click on it. I tried switching
channels from 1 to 10 and tried changing betw
uhci_hcd was blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
This did not cause any cessation of USB functionality in older kernels,
but did with newer ones (including 2.6.22).

I have hte exact same situation. I upgraded to Gutsy RC after some
problems. I am using Kubuntu, but had to use the ubuntu way to perform
the upgrade. Now it constantly shows there's a new version available
even if I have the latest packages and can successfully update them.

I am also having the same problem. I had this problem in Fiesty on this
same box... the irqpoll fixed it last time... but not this time. I tried
all the above ideas... no go on Gusty.
