This problem seems to be Debian-wide, not specific to Ubuntu.
Same happened to me on a brand new plain vanilla Debian Etch Installation: No
problem with hard disk or partition but boot process says:
Mounting /dev/hda1 on /root failed: No such device
After mounting by hand and CTRL-D boot continue
Also the same here, it only works with the default page size set in the
preferences dialog. (A4 or Letter). This bug is appearing after update
from feisty to gutsy.

a less invasive workaround for kubuntu users is to:
edit /etc/network/interfaces and comment all lines for the desired
interfaces, for example if wlan0 is the interface no more in roaming
comment all lines referring to wlan0 in particular line starting with
"iface wlan0..."

Hmm, looks like I've been able to solve it. I removed the .asoundrc and
.asoundrc.asoundconf and then ran
asoundconf set-default-card ICH5
Then everything works fine. But I still don't know what caused this
problem in the first place, and why it didn't work automatically. So

The problem got fixed in build glabels 2.1.3-3. It works fine after
installing package for Debian. I hope this update gets also in Gutsy and
not first time in Hardy.

I addition to what I told about Gimp 2.4 with a custom Huey monitor
profile, I can make it work with only one of my profiles; with others
Gimp tells "(Invalid UTF-8 string)". I hope this helps to solve the
problem with the profiles with Cinepaint.

I have spotted the same bug in my installation. I use Gnome as installed
with Ubuntu Gutsy (libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu3, libgnomevfs2-extra
1:2.20.0-0ubuntu3) and dropbear included in OpenWRT Kamikaze 7.09
(dropbear 0.50-2). It works with KDE and mc wrappers.
