Bear with me; I'm still new to Ubuntu and Linux. I'm experiencing this
bug also and have been keeping up with the automated Ubuntu updates, but
the problem is still occuring. The 'About' window in Evolution shows I'm
still on version 2.22.1. Is there something special I need to do to get

I've also had the same issue.
It's very intermittent and can go for a few days without freezing but when it
does, it requires a hard reset.
Did a full upgrade from Gutsy (which was very stable with the same
hardware) to Hardy.

ubuntu hardy 8.04 with Compiz enabled. When cpu/gpu are loaded enough the
monitor blinks and everything but the mouse (the cursor still can be moved) is
locked hard: the system seems to be responsive and a ctrl+al

There are some problems with the latest nvidia drivers with some laptops. So
the DELL's support just told me to try this.
The problems with the drivers it's because the PowerMizer feature.

I can confirm this bug. It is reproducable in exactly the same way described
above.
However, I want to add that I am using Rhythmbox in stead of Banshee, so this
bug does not only occur with Banshee.

I also am experiencing the same problem with my Toshiba A305 S6825
laptop. When the on-board LAN is enabled, the system fails to launch
into the desktop, but drops to the BusyBox (initramfs) command line
prompt.
Once disabling the on-board NIC, I was able to boot up the LiveCD and
