Since I had not any problem with previous distributions of Ubuntu, it would be
logical to assume that the bug is with the Ubuntu 8.10 and likely not with xorg.

The link that usr provided (KGtk) is, by it's own description, "a quick-

file dialogs when run under KDE." Therefore I agree that KGtk is a great
place to start from, but more work needs to be done. Also, it should be

Will installing those packages overwrite the 8.10 packages automatically, or
should the Intrepid packages be removed first? What about when updates come
out that fix this issue? Do we need to watch for them, or will they
automatically be installed with apt-get?

Sorry, I thought it would be so easy to reproduce I didn't even attach
the terminal output. Here it is.
I have reproduced it with the official intrepid ibex package in a i686
architecture. Later I compiled myself the latest SVN revision. I have
not tried version 0.2.4 from jaunty or the Debian pa
update-manager copied to intrepid-updates. Michael, please upload the
fix to jaunty, too.

I had a similar experience with the final Intrepid desktop .iso. We used a
(final) Intrepid desktop to create a live usb stick (16 GB in size) from a
(final) Intrepid desktop .iso. We set the option "Stored in reserved extra

I run Xvfb :99 -ac, then DISPLAY=:99 gnome-terminal. When I kill gnome-terminal
(with CTRL+C), Xvfb dies as well, throwing Segmentation Fault.

i have test a new USB 2.0 PCI card with NEC- chip set and it worked
without acpi=off. So this solved the problem for me.
The onboard chip set ATI SB600 do not work without kernel option
acpi=off
