The same problem was in Fedora-10 + Compiz + NVidia proprietary drivers.
The less glitchy workaround was found at

but I have already apt-get installed the plugin. By the way I heard a
report from another user or two that they had the exact same confusion.

Alternate CD's of Ubunutu 8.04, 9.10 and also Xubuntu 9.1. And yes, it

Hi, I'm still concerned about this issue. As far as I understand, the
ghc in hardy has a bug which returns random data when asked for the
inode number. This causes any darcs executable built with that ghc to

Sorry, i dont wanna be too picky but skype doesn't work with my USB
webcam, while Cheese does. 7.04 handled it perfectly. Is it a video
driver issue? If so is there a tweak to get the cam to work with
skype?

Yannis, try booting by exiting the busybox (ctrl-D). It did not work for me
though (probably due to hanging processes).
Anyway, the best solution is to install the fixed packages (e.g. after booting
from a Live CD and mounting your real filesystem, then chrooting into it etc).

Observed behaviour:On the first launch of Kile, menu items appear without their
icons - on second launch they appear.
Expected behaviour: Icons should appear on first launch.

The fuser-generated output seems to be missing information;
It's not. The apport hook is buggy - fuser always exits non-zero when
no matching processes are found. And none of these devices were open at
the time.
Killing pulseaudio and restarting it seems to have caused it to right
itself, for

I have another X2 running Hardy LTS (i386) and haven't noticed this
behavior before with cpu frequency scaling.. for reference,
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold on the system
that always just worked was a paltry 31. This issue probably explains
why a somewhat slower
Attached is a typical output of iotop, polling every 10 seconds, on
battery power, showing that gnome-power-manager is writing to disk every
minute or so. This is obviously detrimental to battery life and hard
drive longevity, so gnome-power-manager should not behave in this way.

This bug exists in Jaunty. On battery power, gnome-power-manager writes
to disk approx. every 90 seconds, causing my hard drive to never remain
spun down. I will post additional info in the comments.
