I have a similar problem which does not allow me to shutdown, but
instead statd, it gives an error on rsyslog, upstart-udev-bridge, ssh
(which also gives status 255), udev, rc, plymouth (which gives a status
1).

I've synced this. Normally it would have been autosynced, but it
required some manual intervention because the source package didn't have
a Section: and this triggered some interesting behaviour.

I'm sorry to hear that. It is very frustrating. Can you post your
tweaked xorg.conf and information from /var/log/Xorg.0.log after booting
up? This might pinpoint where the problem is.
