Fabio, sorry for not replying sooner. As I stated in comment #1, I
upgraded the kernel. This actually fixed the problem.
I would assume the kernel entered a waiting condition of some sort in
its core, which got fixed by upgrading to a different minor kernel
revision.

Hi Fabio! Thanks for your attention to my problem. It looks like it's solved
now. When I faced with this bug I just switched to left win as a keyboard
layout changer and forgot about the problem. I left Ctrl + Shift in settings
only today and it works ok (ubuntu 10.04 with latest packages).

I installed the latest upstream from Maverick (0.8.0), and it fixes this
problem. However, I discovered that version will not open or save
project files that have non-ASCII characters in the path (for example
/home/user/Perú/intro.idv), but that's a different bug for a different
report...

Have you started a live cd session and click on install icon on the desktop?
Have you inserted the lucid cd and when the first screen appear hit a key and
chose install?
