I'm also experiencing these problems, and I'm speaking about high CPU
usage due to xorg when scrolling in applications (eg. Firefox,
terminator, pidgin and other). I'm using maverick beta with libcairo2
1.10.0 and nvidia-current 256.53 .

I agree: This is completely useless. It makes at least some kind of
sense on devices like the iPhone - because "Sent from my iPhone" is code
for "Sorry for the terrible spelling".
But using this to "promote" Ubuntu is not cool at all - it reminds me of
the horrible ads that all the webmail provide
I would like to see more details on the rationale behind this.
Are there any studies showing that users like and keep this kind of
thing even after being aware that they can turn it off?
Or this is simply advertisement trying to slip into something that "most
users don't care enough to change"?
I agree with Bilal Akhtar that this bug is indeed a completely paper
cut, because it is a small fix to make an application easier to use,
more consistent with the rest of the desktop and because this bug does

I did "Switch User" which started a separate X server for the login
screen.

Same here.
On browser exit, the whole machine goes into a hard lockup, with mouse cursor
freezing, display freezing, network freezing keyboard leds flashing.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on Thinkpad R50e
I'd googlde a little and found that there is already same issue that actively
discussed her
