AFAIK the rt2860sta is in staging because it does bring its own stack instead
of using the in kernel mac80211 stack. Not because it is especially flakey.
For the same reason it will also never make it from staging to the kernel
proper. Instead the rt2x00 driver family is supposed to take over.

Short answer: no experience with Maverick 10.10
(long explanation: I stick to LTS for most work. I do have a 1 Kubuntu
10.10 installation but it is very instable (probably because of some
nouveau display driver issue) so I have not used it very much and not
paid attention to kpackagekit's
FYI, I've built some packages with this Debian patch and it seems to
solve the problem on my system. It's at http://jafo.tummy.com/maverick-
python-apt/python-apt_0.7.96.1ubuntu11tummy_i386.deb if anyone really
needs it in the interim until Ubuntu releases an update.

I experience similar outcome when restarting from hibernate, some of the
time. The symptom I notice is that certain characters are garbled when
displayed (e.g. %, !, +). Here is the message I get:

Also happening for me with 10.10 booted in Try Ubuntu mode from USB
